I don't know a lot about ILS, but there are two things I do know about libraries, whether they are public, school or academic: they never have enough staff and they never have enough money. Whatever a library decides to do about ILS, it needs to be cheap and easy to implement, use and maintain.
Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI was also having trouble with understanding what they were talking about. But, I found this on good old Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_library_system
It just basically defines the ILS as a program used for circulation, cataloging, acquisitions and serials. Some examples you can purchase through a vendor are Milenium, Voyager, and Horizon. They aren't really user-friendly and most librarians/workers don't like them. There are also a few opensource options that are more helpful and are listed on the site. Hope that helps!
Thanks Priya. I'll check it out.
